
Ohio State Falls to Xavier, 8-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (12-11) fell to Xavier (12-12), 8-1, in a midweek non-conference game on Tuesday.
Game Recap
- The Musketeers got on the board first, taking a 2-0 lead over the Buckeyes on a two-run homerun in the top of the third inning.
- Nick Erwin was walked to lead off the bottom of the third inning but was out on a double play. Back-to-back singles from Josh McAlister and Trey Lipsey put two runners on for the Buckeyes, but they were stranded.
- The Musketeers added three runs in the top of the fourth to extend their lead over Ohio State, 5-0. With one out and bases loaded, Jake Johnson took over on the mound; he fanned both batters he faced to get the Buckeyes out of the inning.
- With one out on the board, back-to-back-to-back singles from Cole Andrews, Matthew Graveline and Hank Thomas loaded the bases, but an inning-ending double play left them all on base.
- In the top of the sixth, Will Pfennig took over on the mound, fanning three of four faced.
- Andrews had another hit in the bottom of the sixth inning, but there was nothing else doing for the Buckeyes as they remained scoreless.
- In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Erwin was walked and Henry Kaczmar singled to center field, but the Musketeers turned another double play to end the inning.
- The Musketeers added three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take an 8-0 lead over the Buckeyes.
- With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Tyler Pettorini came in to pinch hit and he singled up the middle. Pettorini scored on a Xavier error to put the Buckeyes on the board, but the Musketeers remained ahead, 8-1.
- In the ninth, Kaczmar hit a hard infield single and then stole second base, but he was stranded as the Musketeers came away with the win.
Buckeyes by the Numbers
- Andrews and Kaczmar led the Buckeyes in hits with two each.
- George Eisenhardt (1-1) took the loss on the mound. He struck out two and gave up five runs on four hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
- Johnson fanned three in 1.2 scoreless, hitless innings and Pfennig struck out four in 2.0 scoreless frames.
