COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior all-arounder Kameron Nelson competed at the 2023 Winter Cup this weekend in Louisville, Ky., qualifying for the USA National Team on floor and vault.
“I’m really proud of Kam,” Head Coach Rustam Sharipov said. “I think it’s another testimony to if you work hard and do the right thing, you can accomplish a lot. I think winning two events and making the national team motivates the others at Ohio State and those coming to our program that you can not only be successful academically at our school but also athletically. Again, I’m very proud of Kam and also the coaching staff and team. I think this is a huge testimony to what Ohio State Gymnastics is all about.”
- On Friday, Nelson finished 16th in the all-around competition (75.716). He finished third overall on floor with a score of 14.114 and fourth overall on vault (14.302).
- On Sunday, Nelson competed in the event finals for floor, rings and vault. His 13.764 on floor gave him the highest combined floor score of the competition (27.878), while his season-best vault of 14.702 gave him the second-best combined score (29.004) – qualifying him for the national team in both events.
