No. 2 Buckeyes Set to Face No. 7 Texas A&M at USTA National Campus

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team is in Orland, Fla., to take on No. 7 Texas A&M in a neutral site match at the USTA National Campus at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Buckeyes enter the match 7-3, coming off a 4-3 loss at home to No. 9 NC State Wednesday. Texas A&M is 9-1, including a 4-1 victory over FIU Friday. Ohio State and the Aggies met in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships earlier this season, with Texas A&M winning 4-0.
In the Rankings
- The Buckeyes moved up to No. 2 in the ITA rankings this week. This is the first time this season rankings are computer generated.
- Ohio State was last ranked second March 3, 2020. The squad spent seven weeks ranked second in 2017 and five weeks at No. 2 in 2016. The squad was the No. 1-ranked team March 1, 2016.
- The Scarlet and Gray reached as high as fourth for five weeks last season (Feb. 23-March 23).
- In the final coaches’ poll of 2023, released last week, the Buckeyes were tied for sixth.
- In the new singles rankings, Sydni Ratliff is No. 22, Irina Cantos Siemers is No. 33 and Shelly Bereznyak is No. 105 in singles. In doubles, Ratliff and Cantos Siemers moved up to No. 11, their highest ranking as a duo. The tandem reached as high as 15th March 9, 2022.
- For Texas A&M, ranked seventh as a team, Mary Stoiana is ranked ninth in singles, followed by No. 37 Carson Branstine, No. 68 Daria Smetannikov, No. 77 Jayci Goldsmith, No. 95 Gianna Pielet and No. 121 Mia Kupres. The Aggies also have three ranked doubles tandems with No. 10 Branstine/Stoiana, No. 33 Goldsmith/Stoiana and No. 34 Ewing/Goldsmith.

- The Buckeyes are 7-3 this season, with nine of their 10 foes ranked in the Top 25.
- The Buckeyes are 7-0 on court five, with a 6-1 record on court six.
- In doubles, court three is a team-best 7-1.
- Ohio State has won the doubles point in five matches this year.
- Shelly Bereznyak is first on the squad with a 7-0 record in dual matches, followed by Lucia Marzal at 6-1. Kolie Allen and Irina Cantos Siemers each have five singles wins.
