
No. 11 Buckeyes Earn 3-0 Win at Quincy Friday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 11 Ohio State (11-4, 4-1) swept the host Quincy Hawks (4-9, 0-5) Friday at Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Illinois.
The Buckeyes won the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match 25-16, 25-16, 25-19.
Kyle Teune led the Buckeyes with 12 kills while hitting .500 for the match. Noah Platfoot was credited with a game-high 24 assists. Samuel Clark was the digs leader with six.
How it Happened
Set 1
The Buckeyes opened the match with five-consecutive points before the Hawks managed a kill. Quincy closed the gap a bit with Ohio State still holding the lead (11-7). The Hawks then made it 12-10 Buckeyes after a 4-1 run. Ohio State then rattled off three-consecutive points to make it 15-10 at the media timeout. The Buckeyes maintained their five-point lead until a pair of Quincy errors made it 22-15 OSU. After a Hawks timeout, Ohio State scored three of next four points to win 25-16. Kyle Teune and Samuel Clark led the Buckeyes with four first-set kills, helping Ohio State hit .500. The Hawks hit .038 in the opening set.

Set 2
Quincy took a 3-1 lead to open the second set and kept the edge until Ohio State used a 4-1 run to take a 6-5 lead. The teams began to trade points until the Buckeyes went on a 6-0 run to take a 14-8 lead. Quincy called timeout and scored the next two points before a Cole Young kill put OSU back up 15-10. The lead increased to 17-10 on a Hawk error and Teune kill. The Buckeyes closed out the match on a 4-1 run to win 25-16. Teune led with teams with seven kills after two sets. Clark was next with six. Ohio State led in hitting .450-.045 in the second.
Set 3
The final set was a close affair with Ohio State leading 6-5 early before a 3-0 run put the Buckeyes up 9-5. Ohio State then used a 7-1 run to take a 16-9 lead before a Quincy timeout. The Hawks scored the next three points after the timeout Ohio State responded with a 3-1 run for a 19-11 lead. A 5-1 Quincy run closed the gap at 21-17 Buckeyes but Ohio State finished off the set and match with a 25-19 third set win.

The Buckeyes remain on the road in MIVA play at Lindenwood tomorrow before returning home for a nonleague game vs. Charleston March 4. Match time is 8:30 p.m. vs. the Lions Saturday with ESPN+ providing the live stream. The home game next Saturday will start at 4 p.m. at the Covelli Center.
