
No. 2 Buckeyes Ready for Match vs. No. 9 NC State Wednesday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team will take on No. 9 NC State at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus. Admission and parking are free. Video and live scoring will be available HERE.
The Buckeyes enter the game 7-2 after a 5-2 victory vs. No. 20 Arizona State Sunday afternoon. NC State is 6-1 and topped Wake Forest on the road Friday.
In the Rankings
- The Buckeyes moved up to No. 2 in the ITA rankings this week. This is the first time this season rankings are computer generated.
- Ohio State was last ranked second March 3, 2020. The squad spent seven weeks ranked second in 2017 and five weeks at No. 2 in 2016. The squad was the No. 1-ranked team March 1, 2016.
- The Scarlet and Gray reached as high as fourth for five weeks last season (Feb. 23-March 23).
- In the final coaches’ poll of 2023, released last week, the Buckeyes were tied for sixth.
- In the new singles rankings, Sydni Ratliff is No. 22, Irina Cantos Siemers is No. 33 and Shelly Bereznyak is No. 105 in singles. In doubles, Ratliff and Cantos Siemers moved up to No. 11, their highest ranking as a duo. The tandem reached as high as 15th March 9, 2022.
Buckeye This and That
- The Buckeyes are 7-2 this season, with eight of their nine foes ranked in the Top 25.
- The Buckeyes are 6-0 on court five, with a 5-2 ledger on court four and 5-1 record on court six.
- In doubles, court three is a team-best 6-1.
- Ohio State has won the doubles point in five matches this year.
- Shelly Bereznyak is first on the squad with a 6-0 record in dual matches. Kolie Allen (5-3), Lucia Marzal (5-1) and Irina Cantos Siemers (5-2) each have five victories.
Ohio State vs. NC State
- 9 NC State is 6-1 this season, with the loss a 4-3 defeat to Vanderbilt in the ITA Kickoff Weekend championship match in Raleigh. The squad has wins over Illinois, Oklahoma, Tennessee, California and Wake Forest.
- The Buckeyes and Wolfpack met last season, with NC State winning 4-3 on its home courts Jan. 23, 2022. The first meeting was a 7-2 Ohio State victory March 2, 1991 in Raleigh.
- Ranked singles players for NC State include No. 15 Alana Smith, No. 17 Amelia Rajecki, No. 51 Abigail Rencheli, No. 52 Diana Shnaider and No. 69 Sophie Abrams. The duo of Nell Miller and Fajecki is No. 5 in doubles, with Shnaider and Smith No. 23.
