
No. 10 Buckeyes Drop MIVA Match to No. 13 Ramblers, 3-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 10 Ohio State (10-4, 3-1) fell for the first time in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play at No. 13 Loyola Chicago (11-2, 4-0) Saturday at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers won the match 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 25-18).
Samuel Clark led the Buckeyes with 10 kills. Jacob Pasteur added nine kills and tied for the team lead with six digs. Noah Platfoot was credited with 25 assists.
How it Happened
Set 1
The Buckeyes started 2-0 before the Ramblers scored the next two to tie it up. The teams traded points until Loyola Chicago took its first lead at 7-5. The Buckeyes scored three of the next four to tied it at 8-all. Again the squads went back and fourth until Ohio State went up 17-15 on a couple errors by the Ramblers, who called timeout with the Buckeyes on a 3-0 run. Loyola Chicago then took the lead with four quick points, leading to an Ohio State timeout trailing 19-17. The Ramblers took the largest lead of the set at 22-18. Loyola Chicago then closed out the set, winning 25-20. The Ramblers hit .321 while Ohio State connected at .154 in the opener. Samuel Clark led the Buckeyes with six kills.
Set 2
After Ohio State scored the first point, Loyola Chicago went on a 6-0 run. The Buckeyes called timeout and scored the next four points to make it 6-5 Ramblers. Ohio State tied it at 7-all on a Pasteur kill before a Loyola timeout. After briefly going up 8-7 on a Cole Young ace, the Ramblers reclaimed the lead at 10-8 on a 3-0 run. Loyola Chicago increased the lead to 13-10 before the Buckeyes made it 15-14 Loyola after a 3-1 run. The Buckeyes called their final timeout of the set after the Ramblers took a 17-14 lead. After a 5-1 run, Ohio State took a 19-18 lead to prompt a Loyola timeout. The Ramblers scored the next three for a 21-19 lead. Loyola did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way to win the set, 25-21. The Ramblers hit .424 in the set while taking a 2-0 lead in the match. Clark remained the team leader in kills for the Buckeyes with nine.
Set 3
Loyola jumped to a 5-0 lead before an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes then scored five of the next six points to make it 6-5 Ramblers. After a Loyola timeout, the Ramblers scored the next four points for a 10-5 lead. Ohio State used its final time out trailing 12-6. Loyola maintained their lead at 21-15 and scored four of the final seven points to win the set, 25-18, and the match 3-0.

The Buckeyes remain on the road in league play at Quincy Feb. 24 and at Lindenwood Feb. 25 before returning home for a nonleague game vs. Charleston March 4.
