Moldovan Runner-up, Buckeyes 5th at Puerto Rico Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State All-American Maxwell Moldovan fired a bogey-free final round 66 on Tuesday to finish runner-up at the Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club. As a team, the Buckeyes finished 5th in the solid 13-team field.
Moldovan’s 66 is tied for the lowest round of his career. He opened the tournament with an even-par 72 on Sunday but his final 36 holes of 68-66 were the best of any player in the field. The Uniontown, Ohio native posts his second runner-up finish this season and now has seven rounds this season in the 60s.
Neal Shipley made five birdies and an eagle on Tuesday, battling his way to a 2-under 70. He was under-par in all three rounds, finishing at 5-under par and tied for 20th. This was just the second time in his career in which he posted three under-par rounds at the same event.
Jackson Chandler finished in a tie for 24th after a final round of 73. That followed a career-low tying round of 66 on Monday. For the three rounds, Chandler led the team with 15 birdies, which was third-most in the field.
Adam Wallin countered five bogeys with five birdies on Tuesday to finish with an even-par 72. He also finished the event at even-par and tied for 38th. Freshman Tyler Groomes posted a final round 74 to finish in a tie for 72nd. Jacob Tarkany, who played as an individual this week, posted the second under-par round of his young career on Tuesday, finishing with a 2-under 70. He tied Wallin for the most pars this week with 35.
The Buckeyes got off to a hot start on Tuesday and at one point, had taken the lead. But a closing stretch allowed a couple of teams to move up. Ohio State led the field in birdies and eagles made for the week, posting 58 birdies and four eagles over the three rounds.
Next up, the Buckeyes will play in the Colleton River Collegiate on March 6-7 at the Colleton River Club in Bluffton, S.C.
