COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 11 Ohio State (9-3, 2-0) completed the sweep of a pair of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association home games with a 3-0 win over Lewis (7-6, 1-1) Saturday at the Covelli Center. The Buckeyes knocked off McKendree in the MIVA opener Thursday.
Ohio State defeated the Flyers 25-23, 25-22, 25-19.
Samuel Clark paced the Buckeyes with 14 kills while Jack Stevens added 11 and Jacob Pasteur 10. Noah Platfoot led in both digs (9) and assists (38) in the win.
How it Happened
Set 1
Lewis got the first lead of more than a point on an ace to make it 5-3 Flyers. Kills by Samuel Clark and Jack Stevens then tied it at 5-all. Lewis then built a 9-6 and maintained a three-point edge until a Flyer service error and block by Justin Howard and Noah Platfoot made it 16-15 Lewis. After a Stevens kill tied it at 18-all, Lewis called the first timeout of the set. Clark then put Ohio State in the lead (19-18) with a kill down the right side. A Flyers service error and Platfoot solo block game the Buckeyes a 23-21 lead. Lewis then called its final timeout and tied the set at 23 all with consecutive points. The Buckeyes then called their first timeout and scored on a Clark kill and a Kyle Teune ace to win, 25-23. Both teams hit well with Ohio State at .400 and Lewis, .300). Clark led the way with seven kills for the Buckeyes.

Set 2
Stevens started Ohio State off with a kill and a 1-0 lead. Lewis scored the next three before Pasteur put a pair if kills down to tie it at 3-all. The Flyers then went on a 6-1 run to take an 9-4 lead. The Buckeyes then called timeout but Lewis kept its lead. The Buckeyes rallied with a 5-1 run to make it 13-12 Flyers. Pasteur had a couple kills during the run. Lewis called timeout before kills from Pasteur and Clark followed by a Flyers error made it15-13 Buckeyes. After Ohio State’s 8-1 run was stopped, the Buckeyes went up 17-14 on kills from Clark and Stevens. Lewis then called its final timeout of the set. Stevens kept Ohio State going with a kill for an 18-15 lead. Another Stevens kill before a block by Cole and Stevens made it 20-16 Buckeyes. Ohio State called timeout leading 23-21 and scored on a kill by Clark and a Lewis service error to win the set 25-22. The Buckeyes hit .387 in the set. Clark continued to lead the Buckeyes in kills with 12.

Set 3
Justin Howard got the Buckeyes started with a kill. The teams traded points until a 4-0 run put Ohio up 8-5 after a kill from Pasteur from the back row. Lewis called timeout before a Clark ace made it 9-5 Buckeyes. Another ace, this time from Stevens put Ohio State in the lead 11-6. The Buckeyes kept at least a three-point edge. Lewis called timeout after a Pasteur kill and Flyers error put Ohio State up 16-11. Stevens went kill, ace to put Ohio State up 19-13. Ohio State called timeout after a Flyers rally made it 23-19 Ohio State but the Buckeyes finished off the set to win 25-19 and take the match 3-0.
