No. 13 Buckeyes Drop Back and Forth Game to No. 12 Spartans

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State men's hockey team dropped the Big Ten two-game series finale to No. 12 Michigan State, 6-4, Saturday in Value City Arena in Columbus. The game had four ties and three lead changes, but MSU (7-3-0, 2-0-0 B1G) had the final three goals for the victory and series sweep of Ohio State (3-3-3, 0-2-1 B1G).

Ohio State will return to action with two games at Notre Dame next weekend. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday in South Bend, with the games streamed on Peacock and on Ohio State Radio. The following weekend is open before the Buckeyes host Princeton at 5 p.m. Nov. 24 and Nov. 25 in Value City Arena.

How it Happened
- Just 11 seconds into the game Brent Johnson put the Buckeyes on the board, as he one-timed a puck from the high slot for his third goal of the year.
- The Spartans scored the next two. With 32 seconds left in the first period Isaac Howard tallied following an MSU faceoff win in the Buckeye zone. Patrick Geary then put Michigan State ahead 2-1 3:42 into the second.
- Fifth-year defenseman Scooter Brickey tallied his first of the night at 10:14 to tie the game at two. He carried the puck from the neutral zone down the right lane and scored from the faceoff circle. Dalton Messina and Riley Hughes assisted on the goal.
- Less than two minutes later the Spartans converted on their first power play chance of the night for a 3-2 lead.
- Brickey answered with a power play goal at 18:02, scoring on a cross-ice pass from Stephen Halliday. Theo Wallberg had the second helper on the goal that tied the score at three.
- The Buckeyes regained the lead (4-3) with their second power play tally. Patrick Guzzo put home a loose puck at 2:33 of the third period, assisted by Damien Carfagna and Max Montes.
- At 4:05 the Spartans knotted the score at four on a Gavin O'Connell goal after a faceoff.
- The Buckeyes were outstanding killing a major penalty with just over 10 minutes left in regulation to keep the game tied. Buckeye goalie Logan Terness made eight saves on the major.
- Â At 14:42 a Tanner Kelly goal put MSU back on top and Nash Nienhuis sealed the win with an empty net goal at 18:41. Â
- Ohio State ended the game ahead in shots, 34-32. The teams combined for 29 shots in the third (15 MSU, 14 OSU).
- Terness made 26 saves in 58:22 in the Buckeye net. Johnson led the Buckeyes with three shot blocks, while Williams Smith had two. Ohio State blocked 13 MSU shot attempts.
- The Buckeyes were 2-for-6 on the power play, with MSU 1-for-3.
- Brickey had his first career two-goal game. He leads Ohio State with a career-high four goals on the year, including two on the power play. It was his fifth career two-point night.
- Halliday has a team-best seven assists and eight points. He has a point in six of nine games.
- Wallberg has six assists to rank second on the squad and has a point in five of nine outings.
- Guzzo's goal was his second on the power play this year.
- It was the Buckeyes' first game with more than one power play goal and the squad is now 6-for-39 (.154) this season.
- Junior transfer Caden Brown played his first game for Ohio State after missing the start of the year with injury.
