COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 19 Ohio State men's hockey team lost the first matchup of a two-game Big Ten series to Notre Dame, 4-1, Friday in Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind. After a scoreless first period, the Irish tallied three times in the second stanza to take control. Each team scored once in the third for the final. Buckeye goalie Logan Terness made 42 saves and Caden Brown notched his first goal in the Scarlet and Gray in the loss.

- There were no goals or penalties in the first period. The Buckeyes had the edge in shots on goal, 11-10.
- Just 2:31 into the second period Tyler Carpenter opened the scoring for the Irish with a goal on a rebound.
- Two power play goals, at 9:07 on a shot through a screen and at 14:48 tallied from the side of the net on a 5x3, stretched the Irish advantage to 3-0.
- Notre Dame controlled play in the middle period, outshooting Ohio State, 22-8. The Irish were 2-for-3 on the power play in the period.
- Ohio State's first power play of the game started late in the second and carried over to the third, but the squad was unable to convert.
- At 10:24 of the third, Grant Silianoff tallied following a turnover by the Buckeye net for a 4-0 ND lead.
- Junior transfer Caden Brown broke up the shutout with his first goal and point as a Buckeye. A Mason Klee shot, off a pass from Theo Wallberg, went off Brown and in at 15:24. Brown, who was playing in his second game at Ohio State, is the 15th Buckeye to score a goal this season. Wallberg, a freshman defenseman, shares the Ohio State lead with seven assists and eight points.

- Each squad had two power play chances in the final period. For the game, Notre Dame was 2-for-5 with the man advantage and Ohio State was 0-for-3.
