The Basics
As a team ...Â
Â
- The No. 19-ranked Ohio State men's hockey team hits the road for a two-game Big Ten Conference series at Notre Dame this weekend.Â
- The teams will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday in Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind.
- The games will be streamed on Peacock and can be heard on Ohio State Radio. Live statistics will be available.Â
- Ohio State is 3-3-3 on the year and coming off two losses at home to Michigan State last weekend. Notre Dame is 4-3-2 and tied two games at Penn State last weekend, with a shootout win and shootout loss. Â
- Including this weekend, seven of the Buckeyes' first 11 games are on the road to start this season. Four of the final six of the first half of the year will be in Columbus.
- This is the second series in a row between Notre Dame and Ohio State in South Bend. Last February, the Buckyes were 0-1-1 on Irish ice. The teams split a series in Columbus last November.Â
- In the preseason USCHO.com poll, Ohio State was 13th, while the Buckeyes were No. 15 in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live preseason rankings. The squad was No. 19 in both polls this week.Â
- Through seven games, 18 Buckeyes have gotten on the scoresheet, including 14 goal scorers.Â
- Â Â Â Eleven players returned from last year's Buckeye squad that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, was 21-16-3 on the year and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals after finishing third in the regular season standings.
- Â Â Â Ohio State has added 15 newcomers to the roster for 2023-24. The group, with six forwards, seven defensemen and two goalies, includes eight freshmen and seven transfers (two graduate students). The new Buckeyes hail from 11 states in the US and two Canadian provinces, along with a native of Sweden.Â
- Defenseman Scooter Brickey, a fifth-year senior and captain for the Buckeyes, is leading the squad with four goals this season.Â
- In game two vs. Michigan State last Saturday, Brickey recorded his first career two-goal game, with one on the power play.Â
- He shares the team lead in shot blocks with defenseman Brent Johnson with 12 each.Â
- Johnson is tied for second on the team with three goals this season.
- Blueliners Theo Wallberg, Damien Carfagna and Mason Klee have also found the back of the net this season, as has defenseman John Larkin (playing as a forward the game he scored).

- In South Bend, Notre Dame has the edge, 24-18-4, and the Irish lead in Big Ten regular season games, 13-9-2.Â

- Ohio State and Notre Dame skated as members of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association until 2012-13 when the league was disbanded. Ohio State was a founding member of the conference in 1971-72 and played for two years before leaving for three seasons (1973-74, `74-75, `75-76) and skating as an independent. Ohio State then rejoined the CCHA for the 1975-1976 campaign and remained until 2013. The Irish were in the league in 1981-82 and `82-83 and then rejoined in 1992-93. The Buckeyes and Irish last met as CCHA foes March 23, 2013 in the CCHA Tournament semifinals, a 3-1 ND win at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
