No. 13 Buckeyes Fall in Series Opener to No. 12 Spartans

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State men's hockey team fell to No. 12 Michigan State, 6-0, Friday in Value City Arena in the Buckeyes' first Big Ten home game of the season.

Ohio State (3-2-3, 0-2-1 B1G) and the Spartans (6-3-0, 1-0-0 B1G) will close the weekend series at 5 p.m. Saturday in Columbus. It is the Buckeye Eras game and there will be a friendship bracelet making station outside of the Knucklebucks section. Script Ohio on Ice will be performed during the first intermission and there will be a postgame autograph session with select Buckeyes.

The Short Story
The Spartans opened the scoring at 5:22 of the first period and stretched the advantage to 2-0 with a power play goal at 12:10. Michigan State notched the only goal of the second for a 3-0 lead through 40 minutes. MSU tallied three goals in the third, at 8:34, 8:42 and 18:41, for the 6-0 final.

The Buckeyes were outshot, 40-34. The Spartans put 13 shots on net in the first and second periods and each team had 14 shots on goal in the third. Ohio State had nine shots on goal in the first and 11 in the second.

Ohio State blocked 14 Spartan shot attempts, led by Davis Burnside, Patrick Guzzo and Damien Carfagna with two each. Logan Terness started in goal for the Buckeyes and had 25 saves on 30 shots in 48:42. Reilly Herbst closed out the game, with nine saves on 10 shots in 11:18.
