COMPLETE ITA RANKINGS
COLUMBUS, Ohio – This fall was another good fall for the Ohio State men's tennis team. The doubles pairing of JJ Tracy and Robert Cash won the ITA All-American Championship and finished the fall as the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the country.
A total of four Ohio State doubles teams are ranked at the end of the fall. In addition to Cash and Tracy, the team of Tracy and Alexander Bernard are ranked 10th, Cash and freshman Bryce Nakashima are ranked 27th and the team of Preston Stearns and Jack Anthrop are ranked 53rd. The later three teams all reached the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Regional Championship in Ann Arbor. In singles, Tracy finished the fall ranked No. 4, Anthrop No. 11 and Bernard No. 103.
Tracy played well both in doubles and in singles. He won the ITA Midwest Regional singles title and advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Fall National Championship in San Diego. Those results landed him at No. 4 in the singles rankings. After winning the All-American doubles title with Cash, he reached the finals of the doubles draw at the Midwest Regional with Bernard, earning the No. 10 ranking. For the fall, Tracy was 10-2 in singles matches and 12-2 in doubles matches. His next collegiate singles win will be the 100th of his career.
Cash reached the quarterfinals of the singles draw at the Midwest Regional and then teamed with Nakashima to reach the semifinals in doubles, only losing to Tracy and Bernard. The two would then finish the fall on a high note as they teamed to win the ITF 25K at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center, topping a team from Tennessee in the final. He has been one of the top doubles players in the country for the last three years and looks poised to cap his career with a big collegiate season.
Anthrop was coming off a great end to his freshman season and played extremely well on the pro circuit this summer. He continued that success this fall as he advanced through qualifying at the All-American Championship and reached the round of 16 before losing to the eventual runner-up. He then made the semifinals at the Midwest Regional before falling to Tracy and also advanced to the semifinals at the Fall National Championship. He was a team-best 12-3 in singles matches this fall. His run to the semifinals of the doubles draw at the Midwest Regional with Stearns earned him his first collegiate doubles ranking.
Bernard reached the finals of the Midwest Regional and battled Tracy in the finals on their home court at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. That run earned him a spot at the Fall National Championship and he would win his opening round match in straight sets over Alabama's No. 78 ranked Enzo Aguiard. He also reached the finals in doubles with Tracy at the Midwest Regional to earn the No. 10 ranking in doubles.
Nakashima made his collegiate debut this fall and acquitted himself well. He reached the semifinals of the Midwest Regional before losing to Bernard in an all-Buckeye semifinal. He also reached the doubles semifinal at the same event and then joined Preston Stearns to win the Big Ten Doubles Title at the beginning of November in Madison, Wisc. The San Diego, Calif. native had a combined collegiate record of 15-5 this fall and finished it with a pro title doubles title with Cash.
Stearns played in his first collegiate matches this fall and would advance to the quarterfinals of the Midwest Regional in singles. He also reached the semifinals in doubles with Anthrop and then joined Nakashima to win the doubles title at the Big Ten Singles & Doubles Championship. At the ITF $25K in Columbus in mid-November, he teamed with signee Nikita Filin to reach the semifinals.
Reece Yakubov went 1-4 in his singles matches this fall and then went 2-1 in doubles at the Big Ten Singles and Doubles Championship.
On top of the collegiate success, Cannon Kingsley and Justin Boulais both played well in professional matches this fall. They played the No. 1 and 2 spots last season and should anchor the top of the lineup against this spring.
