Sheldon Passes 1,500 Career Points in 88-66 Win Over Boston College

The Buckeyes earned their second home win of the season on Thursday night.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13/10 Ohio State Buckeyes (2-1) beat Boston College (2-2) by an 88-66 margin on Thursday during faculty/staff appreciation night.
Ohio State shot 76.5 percent from the floor in the first quarter as they built a 32-11 lead after 10 minutes. The sharp shooting continued in the second quarter as the Buckeyes took a 55-26 lead into the locker room at halftime. Ohio State outscored Boston College 20-12 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 75-38 after 30 minutes and capped scoring at 88-66 in the game.
Jacy Sheldon became the 17th player in program history to score 1,500 points, doing so on a triple in the second quarter on her way to 16 points total. Cotie McMahon scored 18 in the first half on her way to 24 points. Taylor Thierry used 14 first-half points to reach 18 in the game. Both Sheldon and Thierry have scored in double figures each of the Buckeyes' three games this season. Emma Shumate scored a career-high 10 points on three made triples.
How it Happened
McMahon opened scoring on the first possession before back-to-back Jacy Sheldon baskets made it 6-2. The Buckeyes strung together a 6-0 run to lead 12-4 with 6:47 to play in the quarter. Another Ohio State run of 10 unanswered points saw OSU up 22-6 with 3:49 remaining in the first. The Buckeyes wrapped up a 32-11 first quarter with the final six points.
McMahon scored first again in the second quarter and Sheldon used a three-pointer with 7:51 to play in the half to surpass 1,500 career points and give the Buckeyes a 39-13 lead. Ohio State took its largest lead at 53-20 with 2:42 remaining before halftime on a Taiyier Parks layup and led 55-26 going into the locker room.
Scoring was more back-and-forth in the third quarter as neither team scored more than one unanswered basket before the media timeout with 3:15 remaining and the Buckeyes up 68-34. Ohio State capped third-quarter scoring on a triple from Shumate to take a 75-38 lead into the fourth.
Rikki Harris scored first in the fourth quarter as Boston College got to the free throw line more and strung together a 9-0 run as the score was 81-55 with 3:38 to play. The final Buckeye points of the game came on Shumate's third triple of the evening.
Highlights
The Buckeyes travel to the Bahamas for the Pink Flamingo Championship. Ohio State is scheduled to play East Carolina on Monday at 1:30 p.m. and Oklahoma State on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on FloHoops.
