Hentschel, Panitz Collect Weekly Conference Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lena Hentschel was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week and Josephine Panitz was named the Swimmer of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Hentschel earned two wins on the boards as the No. 5 Buckeyes dominated No. 17 Virginia Tech, 226-135, to open the 2023-24 season.
Hentschel opened the night with a victory on the 3-meter springboard after turning in an overall score of 343.30. She also dove to a first-place finish on the 1-meter with a score of 340.74. Both are NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
Panitz also had a strong weekend for the Buckeyes, racing to three individual event wins versus the Hokies.
On night one of the two-day dual meet, Panitz won the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.36. She also won the 100 breast, turning in an NCAA B standard time of 1:00.13, which was three seconds ahead of second-place finisher Hannah Bach (1:03.19). Panitz picked up her third win of the weekend in the 200 breast, touching the wall at 2:14.09, almost five seconds faster than second-place Reese Dehen (2:19.93). Panitz was also on the winning 400 medley relay (3:37.51) team.
The Buckeyes are back at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 3 at 5:00 p.m. when they host the Akron Zips.
