COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 6 Ohio State (5-6-5) makes a return trip to East Lansing, Michigan, Friday, to face No. 3 Michigan State (7-1-7) in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes handed the Spartans its only loss of the regular season Oct. 24 (3-2).

The Buckeyes enter postseason competition with wins in the final two regular-season Big Ten Conference matches at Michigan State (3-2) and against Maryland (4-1) in Columbus.
Ohio State defeated previously undefeated Michigan State in East Lansing during the regular season, 3-2. Sophomore Luciano Pechota scored twice, including the match-winner in the closing minutes.
Pechota's efforts earned him the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week (10/31/23).
Ohio State has won the last three meetings with the Spartans, twice in Columbus in 2022 and earlier this season in East Lansing. The Buckeyes prevailed 2-1 (10/25/22) in Columbus and then again at home in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals, 1-0 (11/4/22).
Keeper Max Trejo has made 13 starts this season with three solo shutouts and one combined blanking to his credit. Ohio State is giving up just 1.22 goals per match with Trejo between the pipes.
Ohio State is 21-27-2 all-time in Big Ten Tournament competition in 32 seasons. The Buckeyes have won three league tournament titles (2000, 07, 09).
The Buckeyes are 5-5 overall against the Spartans in Big Ten Tournament matches.
Eight Buckeye men's soccer careers are coming to a close. Keeper Peter Van Euwen, forward Reed Davis, defenders Owen Sullivan, Deylen Vellios, Sean Ryan and Connor DesRoches along with midfielders Brayden Durbin and Laurence Wootton all were recognized prior to the Maryland match last Sunday in Columbus. DesRoches recorded his first career goal in the 4-1 win.
The Buckeyes secured a spot in the annual Big Ten Tournament with three points earned after the win at No. 16 Michigan State in East Lansing.
Luciano Pechota was the star of the match at Michigan State with a pair of goals, including the match winner, His first half score helped the Buckeyes to a 2-0 lead at the break. He then scored in the 87' to break a 2-all tie and secure the win for the Buckeyes.
