COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore defenseman Emma Peschel is the WCHA Defender of the Month for October, the conference announced Tuesday.

Peschel led Ohio State blueliners with eight points in the six games played in October. Two of her three goals came on the power play, scoring in the Buckeyes' 2-0 win over Minnesota Duluth and the team's 6-5 win over Minnesota. She has tallied at least a point in five of the six games played this month. Peschel ranks top five among defensemen nationally with 1.125 points per game.

The Edina, Minn. native finished the month plus-9 on ice and blocked four shots, including two blocks against Minnesota Duluth. With the help of Peschel, the Buckeyes are only allowing 2.25 goals per game and 22.75 shots per game. The team's penalty kill also went 18-for-21 (.857) in October.

Peschel and the Buckeyes earned an unblemished 6-0-0 record in October. The team improved to 5-1-0 against ranked opponents on the year and swept top-10 conference foes Minnesota and Minnesota Duluth.

Ohio State continues conference play this weekend at Bemidji State Nov. 3-4. The teams meet at 7 p.m. ET Friday and 4 p.m. ET from the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. Both games will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required). Â
