COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hadley Hartmetz and Raygan Kirk of the Ohio State women's hockey team have earned Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) weekly awards, the conference announced Monday. Hartmetz is the league's Defender of the Week and Kirk is Goaltender of the Week.
Â
Hartmetz, a graduate defenseman from Phoenixville, Pa., was a key player of the Buckeyes' special teams units last weekend against No. 6 Minnesota Duluth. She helped the penalty kill unit finish a perfect 9-for-9 and the power play score three goals. She recorded one of the team's power play goals of the series, recording Ohio State's first goal of the 5-2 win over Duluth on the power play. It was her first of three goals of the game, scoring her first career hattrick and recording the Buckeyes' first multi-goal performance of the season.
Â
Kirk, a senior goaltender from Ste. Anne, Manitoba, earns the conference goaltender award for the second consecutive year. She made 16 saves against Minnesota Duluth in Saturday's game to help the Buckeyes to a 2-0 win and the team's first shutout against the Bulldogs since 2021. The win also marked the program's first sweep in Duluth since 2013. Kirk improves to 2-0-0 on the year, with both wins coming against top-10 teams.
Â
Ohio State continues its conference schedule this weekend against St. Thomas Oct. 20-21. The Buckeyes and Tommies faceoff at 4 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday from the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.
