Ohio State Wins Three at the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fans who made their way to Buckeye Field were treated with a trifecta of good news this weekend: The weather was picture perfect, money was raised for cancer research at The James and Ohio State was on the winning end of three games.
The Buckeyes defeated Tiffin on Saturday, 5-0, and then came back to top Akron (5-0) and Bowling Green (14-1 in five innings) on Sunday to close out play at the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic. The event, which is one of the largest fundraisers for cancer research in central Ohio, is in its 22nd year and featured a total of 10 games over the last two days.
Weekend Stars
- As a team, Ohio State hit .347 this weekend with 11 extra base hits. Skylar Limon, who played in left field, started all three games and hit .600 with three hits in five at-bats. She also walked one. In Sunday's 3-0 win over Akron, she had a two-out RBI that plated the second run of the game.
- Other standouts: How about Kami Kortokrax, who not only collected four hits in three games, but she also made two highlight-worthy catches on defense. She finished with two double sand a pair of RBI.
- Junior Melina Wilkson also had four hits in the three games this weekend and her efforts were highlighted by a three-run home run on Sunday against Bowling Green.
- The team leader in RBI this weekend, however, was McKenzie Bump, who had a three-run home run of her own against Bowling Green.
- In all, seven different players recorded two or more hits on the weekend.
And About the Pitching…
- The Buckeye pitchers surrendered just one run the entire weekend. Lexi Paulsen was the winner on Saturday while Allison Smith and Emily Ruck picked up wins on Sunday.
- Smith pitched a complete game vs. the Zips on Sunday and struck out eight while allowing just three hits and one walk.
- Paulsen's effort on Saturday vs. Tiffin included a complete game two-hitter. She struck out six and gave up only one extra base hit.
- Ruck went four innings vs. Bowling Green on Sunday and eventually gave way to Kennedy Kay, who worked the final inning of a 14-1 victory. Ohio State scored eight runs in the first inning and six more in the third.
