Ohio State is now 11-2 on the season and 4-1 in Big Ten play
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The momentum that Ohio State generated with its upset of No. 1 Iowa on Friday made it ways with the Buckeyes to Bloomington, as the Buckeyes scored three times in the second half and registered a 3-0 shutout of the Hoosiers on Sunday afternoon.
The win improves Ohio State's record to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten play. Indiana falls to 4-7 and 0-3 in conference play. The Buckeyes have won three straight games and are the first team in the Big Ten to reach four conference victories.
The Short Story
A scoreless game opened up in the third quarter, as Ohio State converted on a penalty corner 3:33 after halftime and the Buckeyes added two key fourth-quarter goals for insurance. Fifth-year senior Leanne Bough had the first score of the game followed by an unassisted tally from Brenna Bough and a Sarah Richards penalty corner score to finish off the day.
Ohio State defense gave up just three total shots in the first, second and fourth quarters. Goalkeeper Abby Danson made four saves to record her third shutout of the season.
How The Goals Were Scored
- On a day when Ohio State generated seven penalty corners, the first goal of the game was set up by a successful corner. Bough, who scored for the fifth time this season, was set up by Erin Little and Riley Hudson.
- Ten minutes later, in the opening stanza of the fourth quarter, Brenna Bough scored for the second time this weekend. It was her eighth goal of the season, which is second-highest on the team.
- Ohio State's final goal of the day came with an Indiana empty net and was sent in by Sarah Richards on a penalty corner. Delaney Lawler and Leanne Bough were credited with assists on the play.
Buckeye This and That
- For the weekend, Brenna Bough had four points (two goals) and was in the scoring column in both of the wins over Iowa and Indiana.
- Leanne Bough's two-point day gives her 11 for the season and 48 on her career. Sunday was Bough's 81st career game.
- The Buckeyes, who entered the weekend with the nation's No. 4-ranked scoring offense, have registered three or more goals in nine of 13 games.
- Ohio State has won nine of its last 10 meetings against Indiana and is 8-1 against the Hoosiers since the start of the 2017 season.
- The Buckeyes' 11 wins on the season are the second-most in the last seven years, topped only by the 2018 team that won 12 games. Since the start of last season, the Buckeyes are 22-10.
- This weekend was the second time since the season started that Ohio State has won back-to-back road games. It also did the weekend of Aug. 25-27 at Lehigh and Lafayette.
- The last time Ohio State was 11-2 after 13 games was in 2006. That season, the Buckeyes finished 15-4 overall (5-1 in Big Ten play) and won the conference's regular season title. Ohio State would go on to play in the NCAA quarterfinals.
