
Buckeye Bats Explode, OSU Sweeps Doubleheader

EVANSTON, Ill. – Ohio State erupted offensively in a historic showing during Saturday’s doubleheader action against Northwestern. Despite the score in Game One remaining tied into the ninth inning at 6-6, the Buckeyes proceeded to score 33 runs in their next 10 innings of play to capture Game One 14-6 and Game Two 25-7.
The Buckeyes climb to 16-26 on the season and 5-13 in Big Ten play.
Notes
- The Buckeyes incredibly tallied 40 hits on Saturday, 14 in Game One and 26 in Game Two.
- Ohio State scored 33 runs in an eighth-inning span between the ninth inning of Game One and the seventh inning of Game Two. Their highest single inning was a 10-run second in Game Two.
- Brent Todys had not one but TWO four-hit games on the day, the first at catcher and the second at designated hitter. He contributed two home runs, both in game two, and a combined six runs and six RBI on Saturday.
- Zach Dezenzo finished second on the team with six hits on Saturday, including two doubles and a home run. He finished with five RBI and six runs scored.
- Mitchell Okuley went 5-7 between both games, doubling twice and driving in six runs.
- Kade Kern went 4-8 with two home runs, six RBI, and four runs scored.
- Marcus Ernst had four hits on the day, while Colton Bauer, Blayne Robinson, and Archer Brookman each had three hits. Bauer had five RBI.
- Isaiah Coupet made the most of his Game Two start, pitching five innings of two-run baseball and striking out nine.
- Ethan Hammerberg and Gavin Bruni each pitched scoreless innings in relief.
