
Buckeyes Club 4 Homers in Setback to Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A total of 10 home runs were hit on a muggy Friday night at Bill Davis Stadium but Penn State had the bigger punch and took the opening game of this weekend series 13-7.
The Buckeyes (17-29, 6-14) hit four home runs and collected 14 hits on the night. Freshman Trey Lipsey had his 11th multi-hit game of the season, and six of the nine Buckeye starters has multiple hits in the game.
Notes
- Zach Dezenzo hit his team-leading 14th home run of the season and he now has 33 for his career. Dezenzo pushed his career-high hitting streak to 14 games with the first inning home run
- Freshman Trey Lipsey had a three-hit night, falling a triple short of the cycle. He was 3-for-3 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch as well. His home run in the ninth was his sixth of the season.
- Mitchell Okuley clubbed his sixth home run of the season in the second inning which is his fourth in the last 11 games.
- Brent Todys went hitless the two games vs. Campbell but the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week collected a pair of hits tonight. He laced an RBI double in his first at-bat and then had a single in the ninth.
- The Buckeye 7-8-9 hitters of Colton Bauer, Okuley and Archer Brookman each had two hits on the night.
- In all, six different Buckeyes had multi-hit games.
How It Happened
Penn State jumped all over Buckeye starter Nate Haberthier in the first inning, hitting three home runs and scoring five times. Ohio State answered with a Dezenzo home run and a Todys RBI double in the bottom of the first.
Okuley made it a 5-3 game with a homer in the second, but Penn State answered back with two-run home runs in the third and fourth innings to lead 9-3.
Colton Bauer hit a solo shot in the sixth inning and PSU tacked on another solo home run in the eighth to make the score 10-4. The Buckeyes crept two runs closer in the bottom half of the eighth as Marcus Ernst singled home Bauer and Brookman scored on a wild pitch.
Penn State removed any doubt with three runs in the ninth. Trey Lipsey collected his third hit of the night in the bottom half of the ninth, a deep home run to right center field to provide the final margin of 13-7.

The teams will play game two of the series on Saturday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. Isaiah Coupet will take the ball for the Buckeyes, making his 12th start of the year.
