
Wilkison Claims Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State outfielder Melina Wilkison on Monday was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week for her performance last weekend at No. 23 Michigan.
Wilkison, a Greensburg, Ind. native, went 7-for-12 (.583) over the three-game series with three doubles and a home run. She recorded multiple hits in all three games, starting with a 3-for-4 showing in the series opener that included a home run, three runs scored and a double as part of the Buckeyes’ 6-2 win. On Saturday, she went 2-for-4 and finished the series yesterday by going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
A 32-game starter in right field, Wilkison is batting .365 and has scored 24 runs and eight doubles. Over the last 20 games, she leads the team with a .413 batting average that includes six doubles, three home runs and 12 runs scored. She and Sam Hackenbracht are tied for the team lead with 13 multi-hit games.
Ohio State (28-12, 8-7 Big Ten) is back in action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Penn State (27-17, 9-6 Big Ten) in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Admission and parking around Buckeye Field is free. Additionally, both games will be streamed live on B1G+.
