COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly track and field awards on Wednesday. Adelaide Aquilla was named Big Ten Female Field Athlete of the Week and Eric Harrison and Jaydan Wood were named Big Ten Track Athletes of the Week for the male and female sides, respectively.
Aquilla started outdoor season where she left off indoor season, going two-for-two at the Arizona State Baldy Castillo Invitational last weekend. Aquilla was the only Buckeye to win more than one individual event as she started the meet with a 52.82m winning discus throw. On Saturday, Aquilla set a meet record with a 17.88m to win the shot put competition. Aquilla had the top shot put in the country this past weekend and ranks 12th in the women’s discus throw in the country.
Harrison was a part of both of the Ohio State men’s wins at the Arizona State Baldy Castillo Invitational last weekend. Harrison ran the first leg of the winning 4x100m relay (39.21) on Friday before winning the 100m dash as an individual (10.20) on Saturday with the fastest time in the country last weekend. The winning relay time was the second-fastest time in the country this past weekend.
Wood had a strong showing at the Arizona State Baldy Castillo Invitational to open outdoor season last weekend. Wood won the women’s 400m in 52.39 to set a meet record by nearly a half second and beat the field by almost a full second. In the 200m, Wood finished 11th in a close field (23.79), just 0.04 seconds behind 10th place and 0.07 seconds behind seventh place. Wood’s 400m time was the fastest in the country to open outdoor season.
