COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State sophomore Maxwell Moldovan claimed his second collegiate victory this week and he also claimed his second Big Ten honor as he was named the Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Week for the second time this spring.
Moldovan won the Southern Invitational at an OSU record-setting 15-under par. He carded rounds of 66-68-67 and had a field-best 18 birdies over the three rounds while making just three bogeys in 54 holes. The 15-under is the lowest 54-hole score in relation to par by a Buckeye since 1980.
This was his second individual title in three events this spring. He also won the NEXUS Collegiate last month in the Bahamas. The Uniontown, Ohio native has seven rounds in the 60s this season and 12 of his 18 (66.7 percent) competitive rounds this year have been at par or better.
Moldovan and the Buckeyes will have a week off before heading to the Floridian Golf Club on March 28-29, for the Valspar Collegiate Championship. Last year, Moldovan finished runner-up at the event as a freshman.
