COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two veteran and tested Buckeyes scored individual event points Thursday evening, as did the 200 freestyle relay team, and the Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team is positioned nicely in eighth place after two days of competition at the 2022 NCAA swimming and diving championships.
Ohio State has scored 83 team points so far at these national championships, which are being contested at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech University. The Buckeyes lead all Big Ten schools in the team competition. Defending NCAA champion Virginia leads with 210 points.
Leading the way for Ohio State was the duo of Sr. Kristen Romano and Jr. Amy Fulmer. After finishing 13th in the preliminaries, Romano placed ninth and won the consolation final in the 200 IM in 1:54.31 – just off her school record of 1:54.19 – and scored nine big team points for the Buckeyes.
And in the next race, Fulmer matched her preliminary time in the 50 free, finished 11th overall in 21.88 and scored six more team points. Both Romano and Fulmer earned honorable mention All-America accolades for their efforts.
The 200 free relay team then stepped up to the blocks and crushed it. So. Katherine Zenick, Jr. Fulmer, Sr. Emily Crane and Fr. Teresa Ivan broke the school record and placed fourth with a time of 1:26.74 to earn All-America honors. This is the second Top 5 relay finish for the Buckeyes this meet, after the 200 medley relay team took third.
Seven additional Buckeyes raced at these NCAA championships on Thursday. The 500 free featured So. Maya Geringer (34th in 4:44.59) and Sr. Sally Tafuto (52nd in 4:48.23). The 200 IM included Sr. Katie Trace (63rd in 1:59.47) and the first NCAA championships race for Jr. Josie Panitz. And the 50 free included the first NCAA competition for Fr. Nyah Funderburke (41st in a career-best time of 22.40) while So. Catherine Russo (55th in 22.69) and Sr. Emily Crane also competed.
In diving, Jr. Mackenzie Crawford finished 33rd on the 1-meter with 262.30 points.

The championships continue with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 3-meter diving and the 400 medley relay.
