COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team is in seventh place after the first evening of competition at the 2022 NCAA swimming and diving championships, being held on the campus of Georgia Tech University at its McAuley Aquatic Center. Led by a third-place finish from its 200 medley relay team, the Buckeyes have 38 points and are in a tie with Alabama for seventh. Defending NCAA champion Virginia leads with 74 points.
The 200 medley relay team of Sr. Emily Crane, Jr. Hannah Bach, So. Katherine Zenick and Jr. Amy Fulmer swam a signature race with a school-record time of 1:33.16 to open the meet with 34 points and All-America honors for the swimmers. The time topped the 1:33.64 swim by Ohio State to win the Big Ten championships three weeks ago in meet record time.
This is the second consecutive year for a top-3, podium finish for the 200 medley relay as Crane, Bach, Zenick and Taylor Petrak were third at the 2021 NCAA meet.
About 40 minutes later Fulmer and Zenick were in the pool again with the first two legs of the 800 freestyle relay. Joined by seniors Kristen Romano and Katie Trace, the quartet placed 14th overall in a time of 7:01.14, good for six team points. The team earned honorable mention All-America honors.
Tomorrow
The championships heat up with four individual events – 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 1-meter diving – and the 200 freestyle relay. The Buckeyes have a competitor or competitors in all four individual events plus the relay.
