Buckeyes and Moldovan Lead the Way Through 36 at Southern Inv.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Monday would qualify as a good day for the Ohio State men’s golf team. The Buckeyes posted a field-leading 45 birdies as a team and lead the way after the first two rounds of the Southern Invitational at The Falls Club in Palm Beach, Fla.
Five Buckeyes are in the Top 15 through two rounds led by sophomore Maxwell Moldovan who made 12 birdies en route to firing rounds of 66-68. He has a two-shot lead at 10-under par. Moldovan is looking for his second victory in three events this spring.
JonErik Alford has also played extremely well this spring. He made a total of eight birdies and two eagles in the two rounds on Monday to sit in fourth place at 5-under par. Adam Wallin opened with a round of 73 but them posted his seventh round of the year in the 60s with a 4-under 68 in the afternoon. He is tied with teammate Jackson Chandler, who is playing as an individual this week, at 3-under par. Chandler followed his opening round 74 with a bogey-free 5-under 67. He played his final 28 holes of the day without a bogey while posting six birdies.
Grant Engle, who is also playing as an individual, put together a pair of steady rounds of 71-73 and he is tied for 15th at even-par. Marco Steyn carded rounds of 72-74 and Patrick Schmucking opened with rounds of 75-73.
As a team, Ohio State shot a 6-under 282 in the morning round and then followed that with an 11-under 277. The Buckeyes are 17-under for the event and hold a 9-shot lead over Florida Atlantic heading into the final round. Ohio State is seeking its first team victory since winning the 2019 Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
The Buckeyes will begin the final round at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday morning.
