Lasda Leads Buckeyes to 16-9 Win over Mount St. Mary’s

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's lacrosse team, led by six goals from Jamie Lasda and 11 draw controls and three points from Chloë Johnson, defeated Mount St. Mary's, 16-9, in Ohio Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes never trailed in the game, breaking an early 1-1 tie en route to a 5-3 lead after the first quarter and 9-4 advantage at halftime. Ohio State notched the only goals of the third quarter and each team scored five times in the fourth for the 16-9 final. Both teams are now 5-3 on the year.
Johnson now has a team-best 70 draw controls this season and 155 in her career, standing in third place in program history. Her 70 this season are sixth for a single season in program history, just nine shy of the all-time mark.
Lasda's six goals were a career best and tied for the sixth-best single-game performance in program history. She has 11 goals and points in her last two games combined.
Sophie Baez had a hat trick for the Buckeyes and has seven goals in the last two games combined. Johnson scored twice, adding an assist for a three-point day, while Jamie Level, who also had five draw controls, had two tallies in the win. Nicole Ferrara had three points, with a goal and two assists, moving her point streak to 13 games (30g, 11a, 41p), and Lindsay Epstein had a goal and two helpers, along with five draw controls.

How It Happened
- Ohio State opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the game when Chloë Johnson set up Jamie Lasda for a goal. The Mountaineers answered at 12:42 but the Buckeyes scored the next three to take the lead and held the advantage the rest of the way.
- Lasda scored at 12:14 (from Lindsay Epstein) and at 11:07 (from Nicole Ferrara) to complete her hat trick and give the Buckeyes a 3-1 advantage. Ferrara set up Sophie Baez for a goal at 7:22 to put Ohio State up 4-1.
- The Mountaineers scored the next two, at 5:35 and 2:47, for a one-goal game (4-3), but Baez found the back of the cage with just 12 seconds left in the first quarter for a 5-3 Ohio State advantage.
- The Buckeyes scored the first four goals of the second quarter and led 9-4 at halftime. Epstein notched a player-up goal on a free position shot at 13:50 and Lasda followed 42 seconds later. Ferrara and Lasda (player-up) both scored on free position shots at 11:04 and 8:00. The Mount ended the Buckeye run with a goal at 4:56. Neither team scored the rest of the half.
- The teams were scoreless through the first 13:16 of the third quarter before Jamie Level and Johnson tallied in a 44 second span, putting Ohio State ahead 11-4 entering the final quarter.
- Each team scored five times in the fourth. Mount St. Mary's notched three of the first four, with Epstein setting up Lasda for the Buckeyes in the stretch. The teams traded the next two goals, as Level tallied for Ohio State at 8:12. After a goal by The Mount at 6:20, Baez, Maura McGregor and Johnson all chipped in goals for the Buckeyes. The Mountaineers tallied a player-up goal with seven seconds left for the 16-9 final.
- The Buckeyes had the shot advantage, 40-21, including 12-5 in the first quarter and 22-8 in the first half. Regan Alexander made six saves for Ohio State and Madison Bradley had 15 stops for Mount St. Mary's.
- Ohio State won 21-of-28 draw controls in the game. Johnson led Ohio State with 11, while Level and Epstein both had five.
- Ali Beekhuizen was first for the Buckeyes with five ground balls and Ohio State had the edge in the game, 21-19.
