Buckeyes Post 16-5 Win over Marist

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's lacrosse team, playing its third game in less than a week, ended the stretch undefeated after topping Marist, 16-5, Tuesday afternoon in Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes are 6-3 on the year and open Big Ten play at No. 5 Northwestern Saturday.
Against Marist (1-6), the Buckeyes jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter and led 12-0 at halftime, with a running clock starting with 8:51 left in the second quarter. Each team scored three times in the third and the Red Foxes had the edge, 2-1, in the fourth for the 16-5 final.
Nicole Ferrara led Ohio State with four points, with two goals and two assists, and Lindsay Epstein had two goals and an assist for three points. Jamie Lasda notched a hat trick, giving her 14 goals in the last three games combined. Sophie Baez had two tallies, while Ali Beekhuizen and Ashley Turner each had a goal and an assist. Kiana Perez recorded her first collegiate goal and Jamie Level, Caly O'Brien, Riley Ewing and Bryce Pfundstein also found the back of the cage.
Jane Cowley had three caused turnovers and Chloe Johnson recorded a team-high five draw controls. In the cage, Regan Alexander and Claire Morris split time and each made three saves.
Ohio State had the edge in shots, 27-17, and ground balls, 23-14, and caused 15 Marist turnovers. The Red Foxes were limited to 11-of-20 on clears in the game.

The Buckeyes will travel to Evanston, Ill., to open Big Ten play against No. 5 Northwestern at 2 p.m. ET Saturday. The game will be streamed through Big Ten Plus. The next week, Ohio State will host Penn State at 1 p.m. March 26 in Ohio Stadium.
How it Happened
- Sophie Baez tallied just 56 seconds into the game and Ohio State pushed the lead to 3-0 with two goals in a 37 seconds span at 9:46 and 9:09 from Jamie Lasda and Jamie Level (from Ali Beekhuizen), respectively. Beekhuizen scored a goal of her own for a 4-0 Ohio State lead at 7:21. Ohio State scored three straight free position goals – from Lindsay Epstein, Caly O'Brien and Lasda – in the final 3:49 for a 7-0 edge after the first 15 minutes. Shots were 14-3 in favor of Ohio State in the first quarter.
- Ohio State controlled play in the second quarter, outscoring the Red Foxes, 5-0. Nicole Ferrara set up Baez and Lasda for early goals and at 8:51 Riley Ewing scored off an assist from Epstein to put the Buckeyes up 10-0. Ashley Turner, on a free position shot, and Epstein closed out the scoring in the half. Ohio State outshot Marist 7-3 in the second quarter.
- Ferrara notched two goals of her own to start the third, with Turner assisting on the second. Marist scored the next two, ending the shutout at 8:54. The Buckeyes got a player-up goal from Bryce Pfundstein at 4:39 before a Marist player-up tally. Ohio State led 15-3 after three quarters and Marist had the shot advantage, 6-5, in the third.
- The teams combined for three goals in the final quarter, with Kiana Perez scoring for the Buckeyes and Marist tallying twice. Just seven shots were attempted in the third, with Marist ahead, 5-2.
- For the game, the Buckeyes outshot the Red Foxes, 27-17. Regan Alexander started and stopped all three shots she faced in the first half for her fifth win of the year. Claire Morris made three saves in the second half.
- Marist had the edge in draw controls, 13-11, in the game. Chloe Johnson had five for the Buckeyes, with Epstein recording two.
- Alexander, Level, Cowley (who led Ohio State with three caused turnovers), Morris, Lilli Sherman and Annika Spoor each had two ground balls in the win.
Noting the Buckeyes
- Lasda leads the Buckeyes with 25 goals and 31 points. Ferrara is first with 10 assists and second with 16 goals and 26 points.
- Ferrara moved her point streak to 14 with a four-point outing. She has 32 goals, 13 assists and 35 points during her scoring streak. It was her fourth career four-point game.
- Lasda extended her point streak to 10 games, with 26 goals and 32 points in the stretch. She now has five games with three-plus goals and six with three-plus points.
- The Buckeyes have 16-plus goals in six games this season and are averaging 13.56 per game.
- Ewing's goal was her first since scoring a hat trick vs. Kent State in 2020 and the fifth of her career.
- Johnson now has 75 draw controls this season, the fourth-most in a single season in program history and just four back of the program record 79 set by Molly Wood in 2016 and Katie Chase in 2015.
- Cowley leads the Buckeyes with 13 caused turnovers this season, with three games with three this year.
