COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second time this season, Sydni Ratliff, a freshman on the No. 4 Ohio State women’s tennis team, has been named Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Ratliff, from Columbus and a Columbus Academy graduate, posted Top 15 singles and doubles wins as the No. 4 Buckeyes downed No. 8 Pepperdine Sunday.
In doubles, Ratliff and Irina Cantos Siemers, ranked 31st, beat No. 11-ranked Lisa Zaar and Victoria Flores, 7-5, to tie doubles at one. In singles, the No. 75-ranked Buckeye faced No. 12-ranked Zaar on court three. After Zaar took the first set 6-1, Ratliff won the second, 7-5, breaking for a 6-5 lead and holding. In the third, she won the final four games, sealing the victory with a break, to claim the set 6-3. Her match was the Buckeyes’ fourth point and clinched the team win, with the other two remaining matches in a third set when she clinched.
In singles, Ratliff is 6-3 in dual matches and 16-7 overall this season. She leads the Buckeyes with 17 doubles wins overall and five in dual matches.
The Buckeyes have won four Big Ten weekly honors this season, with senior Isabelle Boulais also a two-time winner.
