No. 4 Ohio State Prevails Against No. 8 Pepperdine, 5-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a Top 10 matchup, the No. 4 Ohio State women's tennis team used five singles wins to defeat No. 8 Pepperdine, 5-2, Sunday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
Ohio State was down 1-0 after dropping the doubles point to the Waves (6-3). The Buckeyes then claimed the first five completed singles matches for the team win. Kolie Allen, Isabelle Boulais and Irina Cantos Siemers all won in straight sets to put the Buckeyes up 3-1. Freshman Sydni Ratliff clinched the win, as she came back from a set down to post the Buckeyes' fourth point. Luna Dormet won in three sets for the final Buckeye point.
The Buckeyes are now 6-3 on the year and have won their last four matches.

"First of all I just want to say THANK YOU to our crowd and all of Buckeye Nation. We felt so much support today and really fed off of the energy out on the courts. I'm really proud of our team. Pepperdine has a lot of experience and they are very tough. From 1-6 we competed hard and that's what it's all about."

In Doubles
- The teams split the first two doubles matches, with Pepperdine winning in a tiebreaker on court two for the doubles point.
- Pepperdine's Shiori Fukuda and Taisiya Packhaleva won 6-3 on court three over Buckeyes Lucia Marzal and Luna Dormet.
- On court one, the No. 31-ranked Ohio State duo of Sydni Ratliff and Irina Cantos Siemers jumped out to a 5-1 lead over No. 11-ranked Lisa Zaar and Victoria Flores before the Waves went on a four-game run to tie the match at five. The Buckeyes then held for 6-5 and broke to win the match, 7-5.
- On court two, the Buckeye team of Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen was down a break against No. 15-ranked Janice Tjen and Savannah Broadus, but fought back, winning three in a row to go ahead 5-4. The teams each held the next three games to force a tiebreaker. In the breaker, the Waves prevailed, 7-3, winning four of the last five points.
In Singles
- Ohio State won five straight singles matches for the team victory, including on the Top 4 courts.
- Allen tied the match, as she downed No. 88 Tjen, 6-3, 6-2, on court four. The Buckeye senior won the final four games of the second set for the victory.
- Boulais followed shortly after to put the Buckeyes in the lead, 2-1. Boulais, ranked No. 31, defeated No. 23 Pachkaleva, 6-4, 6-3, on court two.
- 6-ranked Cantos Siemers notched the next team point, winning over No. 21 Fukuda, 6-4, 6-4. She broke on the no-ad point to win both sets.
- Ratliff, a freshman ranked 75th, clinched the win, as she rallied to top No. 12-ranked Zaar on court three. After Zaar won the first set 6-1, the Buckeye won the second, 7-5, breaking to go ahead 6-5 and then serving it out. In the third set, Ratliff won the final four games, sealing the victory with a break.
- Dormet also prevailed in three sets, as she topped No. 117-ranked Broadus. The Buckeye won the first set 6-4 but dropped the second 6-2. In the third, Dormet held to tie the match at four and then won the next two games for the fifth Buckeye point.
- The Waves won the final match, as No. 45 Flores was a 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 winner over No. 116 Marzal.
Up Next
- Ohio State will open Big Ten play with a 4 p.m. match at Penn State Friday in University Park, Pa.
- The squad will then return to Columbus to host Xavier at noon March 13. That match is the Buckeyes' lone home contest in March. The team will host five matches in Columbus in April.
- Admission is free to all regular season home matches and live video and scoring will be available.
