
Two Individual Champions and a Program Record Highlight Day One of the Big Ten Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track and field team began competition at the 2022 Big Ten Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio on Friday.
Adelaide Aquilla defended her Big Ten indoor shot-put title with all four of her throws surpassing the 18-meter mark and her best throw going for 18.71m, 0.7m further than the runner up. Luke Bendick captured the men’s pole vault championship by clearing an OSU season-best 5.45m. Addie Engel broke the women’s indoor program record (9:12.26) to finish third in the 3000m.
- Anavia Battle set a meet and facility record to lead the women’s 200m (22.64). Yanique Dayle (23.85, season-best) and Alyssa Marsh (24.04) will join Battle in the finals.
- Battle also led all runners in the women’s 60m preliminary heats (7.31) as one of three Buckeye women to qualify for the finals with Dayle (7.37) and Nya Bussey (7.41) each ran a season-best time to qualify. The Buckeye men had all three runners qualify for the finals in the 60m in Eric Harrison (6.71), Kainnen Ramsey (6.75) and Adrian Curry (6.76).
- Tyler Johnson had the fastest time in the men’s 400m preliminary heats (45.71), which is also the fastest Ohio State men’s time this season. Armani Modeste will join Johnson in the final as Modeste finished in a season-best 47.19.
- Leo Uusimaki competed in the heptathlon. Uusimaki finished second in the 60m portion (6.92) and fourth in the long jump (7.06m). He was also fourth in the shot put (12.61m). Uusimaki’s high jump (1.82m) was just 0.03m off from his season-best.
- Abigail Kuhn and AnneMarie Moses both had their best showing of the season in the women’s pole vault with Kuhn tying for seventh overall (4.12m). On the men’s side, Robbie Oswald finished fourth (5.40m) and Uusimaki seventh (5.00m).
- In the men’s shot put, Hayden Tobias had the longest throw (19.03m) of the season for the Buckeye men to finish fifth, while Carlos Aviles had the second-longest throw (18.74m) of the season to finish eighth.
- Bryannia Murphy qualified for tomorrow’s 400m finals with a season-best 54.06 for the Buckeyes. Alyssa Marsh ran the second-fastest Ohio State women’s time in the 400m this season (54.21) but was 0.03 seconds out of a qualifying spot.
- Aziza Ayoub qualified for the women’s 800m finals with the second-fastest time in the preliminary heats (2:06.75). Nick Miller qualified on the men’s side with a time of 1:50.73.
- Mary Figler had the third-fastest women’s time in the 600m (1:29.28) to qualify to run in the finals. On the men’s side Tyrese Fajardo advanced with a qualifying time of 1:18.63.
- In the 60m hurdles, Kentre Patterson (7.81) and Oscar Smith (7.82) both qualified for the men’s finals. Cierra Pyles had the fastest OSU women’s time of the season (8.46) of the season in the 60m hurdles but missed a qualifying spot by 0.01 seconds.
- Pyles finished in the top-10 of the women’s long jump with a Buckeye season-long 5.86m, good for ninth overall.
