Buckeyes Fall at No. 12 Denver, 12-5

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's lacrosse team fell on the road to No. 12 Denver, 12-5, Friday afternoon in Denver, Colo. The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and led 6-1 at halftime. After Denver pushed the score to 9-1 through the first 45 minutes, Ohio State scored four of the first five goals in the final quarter to make it a 10-5 game, but the Pioneers shut out the Buckeyes the rest of the way, adding two late goals.
The loss was the first for the Buckeyes this season, as they fall to 3-1, while the Pioneers move their record to 4-0.
Ohio State will close out the weekend with another game out west, as it will take on Colorado at 3 p.m. ET Sunday.
The Short Story
Denver scored the game's first six goals, with four in the first quarter and two in the second. Nicole Ferrara put the Buckeyes on the board with a free position goal with 5:23 left in the first half. The score was 6-1 in favor of Denver at the break and the Pioneers outshot the Buckeyes through the first 30 minutes, 17-8. Buckeye goalie Regan Alexander had five saves in the first two quarters combined.
The Pioneers scored the only three goals of the third quarter, with two on free position shots, to push their lead to 9-1 through 45 minutes. Denver had the shot advantage, 7-2, in the third.
Ohio State notched four of the first five goals in the fourth quarter to make it a 10-5 game. Jamie Lasda set up Maura McGregor for her first goal of the season at 13:04 and Chloe Johnson scored the next two for Ohio State, at 11:55 and 9:13, sandwiched around a Pioneer tally at 11:12. Lasda assisted on Johnson's second goal and then scored a goal of her own at 8:43 with Ohio State playing a woman up, assisted by Sophie Baez. Ohio State was unable to score the rest of the way and Denver tallied twice in the last minute for the 12-5 final. Shots were 7-6 in favor of the home team in the fourth quarter, with Alexander making three saves for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State won 14-of-20 draw controls, led by Johnson with eight; Jamie Level had three and Lindsay Epstein had two. Alexander was first for Ohio State with four ground balls, while Epstein had a team-best three caused turnovers and picked up two ground balls. In all, Ohio State had 10 caused turnovers and Denver forced 21.
Alexander ended the game with eight saves, with Ohio State outshot, 31-16. The DU goalie made three stops.

Noting the Buckeyes
- Johnson had two goals for the third time in four outings this year. She now has 121 draw controls, moving into sixth place in program history, with seven or more in each game this season.
- Lasda moved her point streak to five games with three points on a goal and career-high tying two assists vs. Denver. She has 10 goals and six assists for 16 points in the stretch.
- Ferrara is now on nine-game goal and point streaks (25g, 7a, 32p), but her multiple goal streak was ended at eight.
- Ferrara and Lasda lead the Buckeyes with nine goals each. Lasda is first with six assists and 15 points.
- Alexander has a .554 save percentage this season. It was her third game with eight-plus saves this year.
- The game was the first between Ohio State and Denver since 2001.
