COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly track and field awards on Wednesday. Graduate sprinter Anavia Battle was named Big Ten female track athlete of the week following her performance at the Arkansas Qualifier last Friday. She also earned national female track athlete of the week honors on Tuesday from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA).
Battle put together her most impressive meet this year, running the second-fastest women’s 200m time in the country this season (22.49) to win the event by more than half a second and setting a meet record and a new indoor personal best. She also won the 60m (7.25) after posting the fastest time in the preliminary rounds as well.
In addition to her second ranking in the women’s 200m, Battle ranks 13th in the country in the women’s 60m. These two wins makes her three for three in the 60m and two for two in the 200m this season as her six total victories is double any other Buckeye – male or female.
