COLUMBUS, Ohio – Tuesday was a day in which the Ohio State men’s golf team had to take a deep breath after the round and remind themselves that they are playing golf in the Bahamas. Oh, and they are just three shots off the lead with a round to play at the NEXUS Collegiate.
Windy conditions made scoring extremely tough for a second consecutive day. The average score of the 60 players on Tuesday was 80.91. The Buckeyes shot a 315 as a team but are just three shots behind Auburn heading into the final round.
Maxwell Moldovan was one of three players to card a field-best 73 on Tuesday. He made five birdies in the round which was the most of any player in the field. He holds a 1-shot lead heading into Wednesday’s final round at 1-over par.
Three Buckeyes carded rounds of 80 which was on par with the field average. Adam Wallin had an 80 and is in fourth place at 4-over par. JonErik Alford followed his opening round 77 with an 80 on Tuesday and is tied for 17th at 13-over. Jackson Chandler, who is playing as an individual, was the third Buckeye with an 80 in round two. Marco Steyn (82) and Patrick Schmucking (87) rounded out the scoring for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State is looking for its first win since winning the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in 2019 while Moldovan is seeking for the first win of his collegiate career. The final round starts with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.
