Wallin, Buckeyes Lead After Day 1 of NEXUS Collegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind a red hot second nine from sophomore Adam Wallin, the Ohio State golf team took the opening round lead at the NEXUS Collegiate on Monday at The Albany Club in the Bahamas.
The temperatures and scenery were nice the island winds made scoring difficult. That was what was so impressive about Wallin second nine as the Sweden native came home with four birdies and an eagle for a back nine of 30. That was part of his 4-under 68 which has him in front three shots. The 68 was tied for his lowest round of the season and it was his sixth round in the 60s of his career.
Maxwell Moldovan, coming off a solid showing at the Jones Cup last week, opened with a round of even-par 72. He made four birdies and four bogeys in his round.
Patrick Schmucking made two birdies in his final six holes to come home with a 4-over 76. JonErik Alford was a shot behind him with a 77 and Marco Steyn rounded out the Buckeye five with an 84. Jackson Chandler is playing as an individual this week and posted a first round 83.
Overall, the Buckeyes carded a 5-over 293 and have a nine-shot lead on Clemson and an 11-shot lead on host Auburn. All three teams are paired in the second round which starts at 8:39 a.m. Tuesday.
