
Buckeyes Dominate 600m to Open Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track and field team began the weekend’s competition slate at the Clemson Tiger Paw and Iowa State Classic on Friday.
Mary Figler won the first event for the Buckeyes on the weekend and her first of the season in the women’s 600m (1:21.02), beating the field by more than one second. The Ohio State men dominated the 600m by running the four-fastest times with David Palmer earning his first victory of the season (1:10.74).
- Following Palmer in the 600m were Alex Kenish as the runner up (1:11.03), Cameron Cooper coming in third (1:11.58) and Tyrese Fajardo finishing fourth (1:11.61). All four of the Buckeyes’ times were faster than any previous OSU men’s time this season.
- Carlos Aviles took third in the shot put with a 19.18m throw, the best throw on the men’s team this season by 0.70m and an individual career-best throw.
- Gia Napolean rounded out a strong showing in the 600m with a fourth-place finish (1:25.76).
- Abigail Kuhn finished fourth in the women’s pole vault by clearing 3.84m.
- In the men’s 200m, Kashawn Baptiste was fifth with a time of 21.92.
- Tyler Johnson was seventh in the men’s 400m (46.69).
- In the women’s long jump, Cierra Pyles (5.74m) and Jaimie Robinson (5.72m) recorded the two best jumps of the season for the Ohio State women. Alyssa Marsh had the fastest OSU women’s time in the 400m (54.23) this season as Pyles did in the 60m hurdles (8.57).
- Michael Zedan recorded the best time of the season (14:43.57) for the Ohio State men in the 5000m.
- Yanique Dayle and Nya Bussey each qualified for the women’s 60m semifinals by running a 7.50 in the preliminary rounds. In the men’s equivalent, Eric Harrison and Kainnan Ramsey both rank a 6.72 in the preliminary rounds to advance to the semifinals.
- The Ohio State men had three qualify for the semifinals in the 60m hurdles in Oscar Smith (7.94), Kentre Patterson (7.95) and Leo Uusimaki (8.13).
