
Ohio State Earns Seventh Ranked Win of the Season at No. 15 Purdue

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes (18-5, 14-1 B1G) beat No. 15 Purdue (18-7, 9-6 B1G) in four sets (25-14, 23-25, 25-16, 25-13) on the road on Thursday in front of a sold-out crowd in the teams’ lone meeting of the season.
Ohio State used an 11-4 run midway through the first set and effective defensive to earn the 25-14 win in set one. Purdue evened the match with a 25-23 win in the second set. The Buckeyes responded by taking control in the third set to win by a 25-16 margin. Ohio State finished strong in the fourth set with a 25-13 set win, never trailing.
How it Happened
Ohio State opened scoring in the match with a kill from Gabby Gonzales. The set was tied at one, two and four before the Buckeyes tallied three-unanswered points to lead 7-4. The teams traded points before another 3-0 OSU run forced a Purdue timeout with the Buckeyes up by a 13-8 margin. Ohio State scored three of the next four points to extend the advantage to 16-9, prompting Purdue’s second timeout of the set. The Buckeyes pushed their lead to 19-10 on three-straight points and scored four of the final five in the set to claim the 25-14 set win.
Purdue scored first in the second set and took an early 8-4 lead. Ohio State scored the next three points to get within one at 8-7 and tied the set at 10. The score was tied at 11 and 12 before a 4-1 Boilermaker run gave Purdue the 16-13 advantage, forcing an Ohio State timeout. The teams traded points out of the timeout before back-to-back OSU points get the Buckeyes within one at 20-19. Back-to-back Purdue points caused Ohio State to call timeout trailing by a 22-19 mark. The Buckeyes fended off three set points, but the Boilermakers tied the match with a 25-23 set win.
Gonzales began the third set with her 11th kill of the match. The Buckeyes grabbed an early 9-4 lead on a trio of 3-0 runs to force the Boilermakers first timeout of the set. Purdue got within three at 12-9, but Ohio State responded with the next four points to lead 16-9 amidst a Boilermaker timeout. The teams each scored back-to-back points as a trio of Buckeyes surpassed 10 kills. Adria Powell capped a 25-16 set win to give Ohio State the two to one advantage in the match.
The Buckeyes scored the first two points of set four before the Boilermakers tied the set at two. Ohio State scored the next three points and built momentum with a separate 6-0 run to take a 12-4 lead. The Buckeyes responded to any Boilermaker scoring, stretching the lead to nine at 16-7 and 19-10 and then 10 at 21-11 to force a Purdue timeout. Ohio State scored the final three points, including the final two as kills from Emily Londot, to seal the match with a 25-13 set win.

- Gonzales earned her eighth double-double of the season (seventh against a Big Ten opponent) by adding 10 digs.
- Kylie Murr recorded at least 10 digs for the 21st time this season, totaling 21 digs tonight. That’s the sixth time this season (all in conference play) surpassing the 20-dig plateau.
- Jenaisya Moore recorded 10 or more kills for the 16th time this season, finishing with 17 kills.
- Emily Londot reached the 10-kill plateau for the 20th time this season, matching her season-high 19 kills.
- Londot earned her ninth double-double of the season by adding 11 digs to her 19 kills.
- Rylee Rader matched her season-high six blocks.
- Mac Podraza recorded her 700th career dig.
- Set one: Ohio State hit .364 in the set while forcing Purdue to hit in the red (-.026). The Buckeyes scored first and did not trail in the set.
- Set two: The Buckeye defense forced the Boilermakers to hit .129.
- Set three: OSU scored the first three points and did not trail during the set, hitting .529.
- Set four: Ohio State again didn’t trail during the set, hitting .593 to Purdue’s .143.
