Anavia & Adelaide Big Ten Track/Field Athletes of the Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field “A-Team” of sprinter Anavia Battle and thrower Adelaide Aquilla have been named the Big Ten Conference’s outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, respectively. Voting is done by the conference coaches.
Battle, a senior from Inkster, Mich., has now been named the Big Ten’s outstanding track athlete four times: twice being named the outdoor track athlete of the championships (2019 and 2021) and also being named the 2020 indoor track athlete of the championships in addition to her honor today.
Aquilla, a junior athletically from Rocky River, Ohio, is on a roll in 2021. She was the Big Ten’s indoor field athlete of the championships and field athlete of the year in addition to its outdoor field athlete of the championships and now has earned the field athlete of the year outdoor honor as well.
Each was instrumental in Ohio State’s highest-ever finish at the NCAA outdoor championships – 11th – last week.
Battle scored six team points by placing third in the 200 meters. She earned first-team All-America honors for her efforts, and she was a second-team honoree as part of the 4×100 relay. These achievements came after Battle won the 100, the 200 and ran a leg on the victorious 4×100 relay team at the Big Ten outdoor championships.
Aquilla scored 10 points for Ohio State at NCAAs as she matched her indoor accolades by winning the outdoor shot put national championship and earning first-team All-America status. She was also an honorable mention All-American in the discus throw. Aquilla is the Big Ten’s indoor and outdoor shot put champion for 2021 as well, giving her a sweep of the shot put at the four biggest meets for Ohio State this year.
Ohio State won the team title at the Big Ten championships for the second consecutive championships and for the fourth time overall, all under the direction of coach Karen Dennis.
