COLUMBUS, Ohio – After nearly two weeks of preparation, the Ohio State men’s golf team is set to compete in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional this week at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club. The 54-hole event kicks on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. and the final round will be on Wednesday.
The top five teams and top individual not on one of those five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 28 – June 2.
- The Buckeyes lineup this week will feature freshmen Maxwell Moldovan and Adam Wallin as well as sophomore Jackson Chandler and seniors Felix Kvarnstrom and Elis Svard. Sophomore Patrick Schmucking will also be traveling this week as a substitute.
- This will be Ohio State’s 50th NCAA postseason appearance.
- Ohio State has been selected for the NCAA Regionals for the fifth time in the last eight years.
- The last time OSU was in a regional, the Buckeyes finished second at the Myrtle Beach Regional in 2019 to advance to the NCAA Championship.
- Ohio State is looking to qualify for its 47th NCAA Championship.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a fifth-place showing at the Big Ten Championship, which was played at Crooked Stick on April 30 – May 2. Three Buckeyes finished in the Top 16, led by Kvarnstrom with a 10th place finish at 8-over par. Moldovan was 13th and Wallin was 16th.
- Moldovan leads the team in scoring at 71.57 and has three Top 10 finishes. He also tops the squad with eight rounds in the 60s and 13 of his 21 rounds have been at par or better.
- Moldovan was named second team All-Big Ten in his first season.
- Kvarnstrom is second on the team with a 72.86 scoring average and has made a team-high 65 birdies.
- Kvarnstrom and Svard are the only two Buckeyes in the lineup this week with NCAA Regional experience. Kvarnstrom played in the DII Southeast Regional twice while at Lynn and Svard played in the DII West Regional three times while at CSU Monterey Bay. In all three of those years, Svard advanced on to the final site.
- The Seminole Legacy Golf Club was redesigned by Buckeye Jack Nicklaus and his design team and was reopened in March of 2020. Only one hole remains from the original routing, with all the tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, greens and cart paths being new.
- Very little rain is in the forecast for next week in Tallahassee, with temperatures reaching into the mid to upper 80s all three days.
