COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State heads to West Lafayette on Tuesday evening for an added game vs. Purdue. Both teams were idle this weekend because each team’s opponents were on pause due to Covid related issues. First pitch Tuesday evening is set for 4 p.m.
The Buckeyes and Boilermakers are coming off a series against each other on April 30-May 2. Ohio State took two of the three games, winning 11-3 on Friday, 12-2 on Saturday and then falling in a wild 16-15 battle on Sunday.
Ohio State enters the game at 17-14 overall while Purdue is 11-20.
Ohio State Quick Hitters
- Against the Boilermakers two weekends agao, Ohio State hit .404 as a team with eight home runs and 18 extra base hits. That weekend raised the team’s batting average nearly 20 points.
- The Buckeye pitching staff leads the Big Ten in strikeouts per nine innings at 10.9 which is also 10th nationally.
- The OSU staff is also third in the Big Ten in hits allowed by batter per nine innings (8.19) and third in opponent batting average (.241).
- Seth Lonsway leads the conference in strikeouts with 80 and has allowed the fewest hits per nine innings at 4.56. That second number is also fifth in the country.
- TJ Brock has seven saves on the year which is second in the Big Ten. He also leads the team with a 2.20 ERA in a team-high 13 appearances.
- Freshman left-hander Isaiah Coupet has made seven appearances out of the pen and has a 2.92 ERA with 21 strikeouts and just four walks.
- Freshman Kade Kern had a great series against Purdue and raised his batting average to .376. That is the best batting average of any hitter in the Big Ten.
- Kern has 13 multi-hit games and is currently riding a season-high eight-game hitting streak.
- Brent Todys is currently riding a career-high eight-game hitting streak. He is hitting .364 with two home runs, four doubles and 13 runs batted in over those 11 games.
- Conner Pohl has hit safely in 13 consecutive games which is a career-high.
- Pohl has had a hit in 23 of the 31 games this season. He has reached base in all but two of the games this year and is riding a streak of 21 consecutive games of reaching base, which is also a career high.
- Pohl leads the team with 10 home runs, marking his first season with double-digit bombs.
- Zach Dezenzo had a great weekend vs. Purdue, hitting .533 (8-of-15) with two home runs, two doubles a triple and 10 runs batted in. He raised his batting average 30 points and is now hitting .312.
