COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State continues its home stand this weekend when it welcomes Purdue to Bill Davis Stadium for a three-game series starting on Friday. These three games will be the fourth, fifth and sixth games of a two-weekend home stand are part of a stretch of nine of 12 at home.
Ohio State swept Purdue in the teams’ most recent series in 2019 in West Lafeyette but the Boilermakers have won three of the last four series in Columbus dating back to 2008. Game one is set for Friday night at 6:05, followed by a 3:05 first pitch Saturday and a 1:05 start on Sunday.

The Opponent
- Purdue had a great weekend two weeks ago in Champaign, sweeping all four games against Michigan State and Illinois. But last weekend at home, the Boilermakers were swept by the Illini in a three-game series.
- The Boilermakers are 10-18 on the season but do have a winning record on the road at 4-3.
- Purdue is hitting just .242 as a team but has the third-fewest strikeouts in the league.
- Miles Simington leads the team in hitting at .340 and is tops in the conference with 12 doubles.
- On the mound, the Boilermakers have allowed the third-most runs in the league and have the second-most walks of any Big Ten team.
Ohio State Quick Hitters
- Ohio State enters the weekend at 15-13 overall and is coming off a 2-1 weekend against Penn State.
- The Buckeye pitching staff leads the Big Ten in strikeouts per nine innings at 10.8 which is also 14th nationally.
- The OSU staff is also third in the Big Ten in hits allowed by batter per nine innings (7.95) and opponent batting average (.236).
- Seth Lonsway is second in the conference in strikeouts with 71 and has allowed the fewest hits per nine innings at 4.57.
- Lonsway has recorded double-digit strikeouts in three of his last four starts and has 10 double-digit strikeout games in his career.
- TJ Brock has seven saves on the year which is tops in the Big Ten and tied for 12th nationally.
- Griffan Smith has made eight appearances out of the pen this year. In his last two appearances, he has pitched two perfect innings and has made just 21 combined pitches.
- Freshman Kade Kern continues to lead the team in hitting at .365, which is third in the conference. He had two hits in each of the three games last weekend vs. Penn State and has a team-high 11 multi-hit games this season.
- Brent Todys is currently riding a career-high eight-game hitting streak. He is hitting .400 with two home runs, three doubles and nine RBI over those eight games.
- Conner Pohl has hit safely in 10 consecutive games which is a career-high.
- Pohl has had a hit in 20 of the 28 games this season. He has reached base in all but two of the games this year and is riding a streak of 18 consecutive games of reaching base, which is one shy of his career high.
- Pohl’s second at-bat this weekend will be the 700th of his career.
- Zach Dezenzo has played in 100 career games as a Buckeye and is just five hits away from 100 in his career.
Penn State Weekend Recap
- Ohio State open their home stand by winning two of three against Penn State.
- The Buckeyes slugged their way to an 11-6 victory in game one and then used a great start by Seth Lonsway on Saturday to take game two 7-0. Sunday’s series finale went to the Nittany Lions, who scored four unanswered runs over the final three innings to win 10-6.
- Lonsway went seven innings on Saturday, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out six.
- Kade Kern had two hits in all three games and batted .600 in the series with a home run and two RBI.
- Brent Todys extended his hitting streak to eight games with five hits, a homer and a team-high five runs batted in.
- The Buckeyes hit a total of six home runs in the series, their most of any series this season.
- Griffan Smith had a couple of scoreless innings out of the pen. He struck out one and made just 21 combined pitches in the two appearances.
