Adelaide Aquilla Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State University throws specialist Adelaide Aquilla is this week’s Big Ten Conference field athlete of the week.
Aquilla, from Rocky River, Ohio, set her second school record of 2021 last week at the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays, sending the shot put to a new Ohio State standard of 18.29m / 60-0 ¼ to win the invitational division competition. The throw was also the furthest in the nation this year.
Aquilla has had a terrific 2021 campaign:
- She successfully defended her 2020 championship by winning the 2021 Big Ten Conference indoor shot put crown;
- She was named the Big Ten’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Championships;
- She won the NCAA indoor shot put championship with a personal best and Ohio State indoor school record throw of 18.12m / 59-5 ½;
- She was named first-team All-American; and now
- She has set the outdoor school record in the shot put with her throw last week at Illinois.
Aquilla and her Buckeye teammates will compete this Friday and Saturday at the Jesse Owens Track Classic at Jesse Memorial Stadium.
