COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State welcomed 15 teams to the OSU Golf Club for the 49th playing of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate this weekend. The first two rounds were scheduled for Saturday but a steady afternoon rain slowed play to the point that the second round wasn’t able to completely finish.
All 11 Buckeyes in the tournament did finish 36 holes however, and sophomore Jackson Chandler led the way with rounds of 67-75 and sits in a tie for sixth at even par. Chandler’s morning round featured six birdies and the 67 was tied for the lowest round of the day.
Fellow sophomore Patrick Schmucking, playing on the Ohio State B team, made a total of nine birdies and an eagle on the day. Both of those totals are tied for tops in the field. He stands at 2-over par and tied for 15th.
Freshman Maxwell Moldovan rebounded from an opening round 76 by playing his final 15 holes, all in the rain, in 3-under par. He is 3-over par through 36 holes and one of the players tied with him is teammate Grant Engle. Engle was steady throughout the entire day, posting rounds of 72 and 73.
Felix Kvarnstrom is 5-over par following rounds of 72-75, Adam Wallin is 9-over after a 75 and 76 and Elis Svard rounded out the A team as he bounced back from a 79 in the morning with a 73 in the afternoon.
JonErik Alford, playing in his first even this season, posted a pair of rounds in the 70s with a 76 and a 79. Caleb Davern had an 81 in the morning round but four birdies in a six-hole stretch in the afternoon to come in with a 74. Laken Hinton (81-79) and Kevin Stone (82-79) rounded out the OSU B lineup.
As a team, the Ohio State A team is in eighth place but just six shots out of second.
There are just a couple of groups needing to finish the second round and they will do so beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The field will then be repaired, and the final round will start with tee times at 9 a.m.
After a wet day, the forecast looks dry for Sunday with temperatures around 60 degrees. The event is open to all spectators and there is no admission charge.
