
Sade Olatoye Named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s track and field star Sade Olatoye is has been named the Big Ten Conference’s field athlete of the week for her efforts at the Indiana Big Ten Invite #3 last weekend in Bloomington, Ind.
Olatoye, a graduate student from Dublin, Ohio, pursuing a master’s degree in bioethics, won two events last week – the hammer throw and the discus – and finished third in the shot put. Her 68.84m / 228-10 hammer throw is the third-longest in the country this year while her winning discuss throw of 56.68m / 185-11 was a personal best and the 12th-best nationally. Both throws were just inches from the Ohio State school records.
Olatoye has a shot put best of 17.21m / 56-5 ¾ this season which is also 12th-best nationally and gives her national Top 15 status in three events this spring.
Olatoye has the company of teammates Adelaide Aquilla, from Rocky River, Ohio, and Divine Oladipo, from London, England, in the national rankings:
- Aquilla, the 2021 NCAA indoor champion, has the ninth-best shot put in the nation at 17.47m / 57-3 ¾; and
- Oladipo has the 16th-ranked shot put at 17.03m / 55-10 ½ and she has the 15th-best discus throw of 55.69m / 182-8.
Aquilla is a senior double majoring in communications and hospitality management. Oladipo, who transferred to Ohio State last year from UConn, is pursuing her master’s degree in accounting.
These three standouts are part of a collection of throwers and middle distance and distance runners for Ohio State who will compete at the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays this weekend in Champaign, Ill.
