COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State track and field is competing nationally this weekend: the men’s and women’s throwers are in Bloomington, Ind., competing at the one-day Big Ten Invitational #3 while the runners and jumpers are in Prairie View, Texas, competing in the two-day Husker B1G Invitational.
A big winner in a limited-running event day in Prairie View was freshman Chanler Robinson, who set a personal best in the 400 hurdles in winning a 22-person race in 59.08. J’Alyiea Smith was 11th in 1:01.66.
Ohio State’s sprinters were dominant. Anavia Battle and Yanique Dayle each won heats in the 100 prelims and both advanced to Saturday’s finals with Battle qualifying first in 11.53 and Dayle fourth in 11.83. Nya Bussey took ninth in the 34-person field with a personal best time of 11.98 while Divine Parker was 20th in 12.24.
Eric Harrison, who boasts the nation’s fifth-fastest 100 time this year (10.17), and Kainnan Ramsey each won their 100-meter heats to qualify for the finals tomorrow. Harrison won in 10.58 and was the overall No. 1 qualifier. Ramsey qualified third in 10.72. Adrian Curry was ninth in 10.88 and Tavonte Mott was 24th in 11.10.
Meanwhile, in Bloomington, Sade Olatoye had another fine afternoon for the Buckeyes, winning both the hammer and the discus while finishing third in the shot put. Her 68.84m hammer throw is the second-longest in the country this year while her winning discuss throw of 56.68m was a personal best and just inches from an Ohio State school record.
Divine Oladipo had a personal best in the discus of 55.69m to finish second.
Carlos Aviles was second in Bloomington in the shot with a toss of 17.04m while teammates Adam Riedinger and Ryan Demaline each set new personal bests in the event. Riedinger sent the shot 16.44m while Demaline’s new record is 16.30.
Aviles was also third in the discus with a personal best throw of 51.62m while Evan Johnson also set a personal best in the event of 48.01m.
Sarah Stanley, the senior who two weeks ago threw the javelin to the cusp of a new school record, remains really focused in her specialty with a throw of 47.04m this evening.
Competition resumes Saturday afternoon in Prairie View, while the throwers completed their events in Bloomington on Friday.
