Buckeyes Take on No. 2 Michigan, No. 12 William & Mary This Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 5 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team will face No. 2 Michigan and No. 12 William & Mary in virtual meets this week. The Buckeyes will battle the Wolverines on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. to conclude their Big Ten slate before closing the regular season against the Tribe on Sunday at 3 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Buckeyes are coming off a 406.100-395.750 win over No. 8 Iowa last Saturday. Ohio State won every team event title while scoring season highs on floor (70.700) and parallel bars (68.500). Andrew Brower claimed the pommel horse title and tied his career mark with a 13.600. Max Andryushchenko took home the crown on rings after scoring a 13.750 and shared the high bar title with a 13.200. Sean Neighbarger won on vault with a 14.450 and Jesse Tyndall scored a 14.050 to finish first on parallel bars.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
The Wolverines sit atop the Big Ten standings at 4-0 in conference meets and 5-0 overall after picking up a 412.800-384.400 victory against No. 10 Minnesota last weekend. Michigan ranks No. 1 nationally on rings (68.150) and high bar (67.225), and is second on pommel horse (67.025) and parallel bars (67.413).
LOOKING AT WILLIAM & MARY
The Tribe was scheduled to take on Navy last Saturday but the meet was postponed. The team last competed against top-ranked Oklahoma on March 6 and dropped a 403.700-384.900 decision. William & Mary is 11th in the country on rings (63.917) and parallel bars (64.383).
B1G HONORS
Rookie Kameron Nelson earned his first weekly honor as a Buckeye after being selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The Jackson, Tenn., native tied for second place on floor with a career-best 14.250. His mark contributed to the Buckeyes scoring a 70.700 on the event, a season high.
NATIONAL LAURELS
Senior Max Andryushchenko received national recognition after being named the College Gymnastics Association Specialist of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday. Andryushchenko finished on the podium on three events against Iowa. The Mt. Prospect, Ill., native scored a 13.750 on rings to win the event. He followed up that performance with a 13.800 on parallel bars to share second place. Andryushchenko closed the meet on high bar, where he stuck his dismount and had a score of 13.200 to tie for first place.
