#11 Buckeyes Get Revenge with a 3-2 Win over #4 Huskers

LINCOLN, Neb. – For the seventh time this season, the No. 11 Ohio State women’s volleyball went the distance and pulled out a win, this time against No. 4 Nebraska on Saturday night. The Buckeyes got their revenge with a hard-fought 3-2 victory (25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center to improve to 13-1 overall while the Huskers fall to 10-2.
Prior to tonight, Ohio State had lost six straight matches to the Huskers. It was the first win over Nebraska since Oct. 1, 2016 and the first in five sets since Oct. 3, 2015.
Emily Londot recorded her second straight double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs. For the second match in a row, Vanja Bukilic tallied 16 kills, tying her season high. Rylee Rader connected on 10 of her 24 error-free swings for a .417 hitting clip.
Gabby Gonzales chipped in nine kills and nine digs while Lauren Witte converted on nine of her 14 attempts to hit .643. Mac Podraza had her third double-double on 49 assists and 13 digs. Kylie Murr and Hannah Gruensfelder registered 11 digs apiece. At the net, Rader had a match-high eight blocks, followed by Londot with five rejections.
SET 1: Witte served up back-to-back aces to cap off a 4-0 run. Nebraska responded with four straight points of its own to pull within one, 14-13. A Rader-Gonzales block wrapped up the Buckeyes’ 4-1 sprint to close the set, 25-20.
SET 2: Ohio State fell behind early but made up the difference to lock the score at 13-all. The Huskers got back in front at the 18-17 mark and held on for a 25-22 decision.
SET 3: The Buckeyes needed a quick timeout as they trailed 11-6. Out of the break, kills by Londot and Witte brought Ohio State within three, 21-18. The teams exchanged the next seven points as Nebraska took the set, 25-21.
SET 4: Ohio State had Nebraska on the ropes with a 15-10 lead. Bukilic put the ball down hard for a kill and Podraza earned an ace to move the advantage to six points. Londot’s kill provided the set-point opportunity and a Husker error sealed a 25-21 Buckeye triumph.
SET 5: Nebraska went on a 4-0 sprint to take a slight 11-10 edge. Kills by Bukilic, Witte and Londot tied the frame at 13-all. The Huskers called for time after an attacking error put the Buckeyes ahead 14-13. Rader delivered the final blow to clinch the win, 15-13.
