
No. 9 Buckeyes Set for Match at Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 10-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team (10-3, 7-1 B1G) closes out a stretch of three straight road matches at Penn State (5-4, 4-4 B1G) Sunday. The teams will meet at 11 a.m. in State College, Pa. Live scoring will be available HERE.
Buckeye This and That
- The Buckeyes are coming off 5-2 road wins at Nebraska and Iowa last weekend. Luna Dormet, Lisa Hofbauer and Lucia Marzal led the Buckeyes with 2-0 singles records last week. The doubles tandem of Dormet and Irina Cantos Siemers was 2-0, with Kolie Allen and Isabelle Boulais 1-0 and Hofbauer and Marzal 1-1.
- The Buckeyes are ninth in the ITA rankings this week. The squad started the year at No. 13 and moved into the Top 10 Jan. 27.
- Ohio State and Northwestern are tied for second in the Big Ten with 7-1 records, with Michigan first at 8-0. Iowa and Nebraska are 6-2.
- Ohio State has won the doubles point in 10 of 12 matches this season, including in its eight Big Ten matches. In doubles, the squad is 8-1 on court one and 11-2 on court three, with a 5-6 mark on court two, posting a 17-1 mark in B1G matches.
- Lucia Marzal (12-2) leads Ohio State in overall singles wins, followed by Luna Dormet (11-1) and Irina Cantos Siemers (11-4) with 11 each. In dual play, Marzal is 10-1 and Dormet is 9-1 to lead the Buckeyes. Marzal is 7-0 in Big Ten action, with Dormet 6-1. Allen, Boulais and Cantos Siemers all have five Big Ten singles victories.
- In dual matches, the doubles tandem of Kolie Allen and Isabelle Boulais is a team-best 7-1, all on court one. The duo of Dormet/Cantos Siemers is 6-0 and Hofbauer/Marzal are 5-1.
Ohio State vs. Penn State
- Ohio State is 33-17 all-time against the Nittany Lions and on a seven-match winning streak against Penn State.
- The teams last met March 17, 2019, with Ohio State posting a 6-1 win at home.
- The last match between the teams on the Nittany Lions’ home courts was a 7-0 Buckeye victory Feb. 22, 2018.
- Penn State is 5-4 overall this year and 4-4 in Big Ten play. The Buckeyes’ travel partner, last week the Nittany Lions fell at Iowa (5-2) and at Nebraska (4-2).
- The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions will meet to close the regular season at noon April 17 in Columbus.
